Eastern Washington University Press publishes innovative works that possess freshness in language and theme. It supports and extends the intellectual, educational and public role of the University through publications for academic and public audiences, the sponsorship of literary festivals, the presentation of literary prizes, student internships, and outreach to schools and civic groups. A central aspect of our mission is the publication of works that address the history, culture, literature, and public policy of the Inland Northwest and Northern Rocky Mountain regions.
Spokane Prize for Short Fiction ($1500)Eastern Washington University Press is pleased to announce the 2008 Spokane Prize for Short Fiction. Winners receive publication plus a $1500 cash prize. To be considered for the prize, send a book-length manuscript of stories (no less than 98 pages and no fewer than 3 stories), an SASE for notification, and a $25 dollar reading fee made out to "EWU Press." Recent winners include Midge Raymond for "Forgetting English" and Joseph Bathanti for "The High Heart." Past judges include John Keeble, Jess Walter, William Kittredge, and Christopher Howell.

The Blue Lynx Prize for Poetry ($1500)Eastern Washington University Press is pleased to announce the 2008 Blue Lynx Prize for Poetry. Winners receive publication plus a $1500 cash prize. Send a book-length manuscript(minimum 48 pages of poems), an SASE for notification, and a $25 reading fee made out to "EWU Press." Recent winners include B. T. Shaw for her book "This Dirty Little Heart" and Jim Daniels for his book "Revolt of the Crash-Test Dummies." Previous judges include Alberto Rios, Christopher Buckley, Robert Wrigley, Beckian Fritz Goldberg, Dorianne Laux, Michael Heffernan, and Yusef Komunyaaka.
